Utilizing Creative Design to Catch Stakeholder’s Attention

Creative design means more than just artistic talent. Design will differentiate a donor recognition display and make it an effective tool, rather than just a beautiful piece of art on the wall. An effective donor recognition display needs to resonate with existing and prospective donors. It needs to tell their story, inspire them to give initially or again, and recognize them for their generosity. It needs to speak to them on every level, inviting a dynamic relationship that will be timeless.

Do Virtual Fundraising Events Work?

Creative design is a subjective topic, whether you are looking at a new home, a piece of jewelry, clothing, artwork, or nearly anything else that can be artistically conceived with form and function in mind. The subject’s beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is individually perceived through that particular person’s taste and preferences. When discussing creative design regarding donor recognition, however, there are a few fundamental principles of design to which you must adhere for the finished product to fit The Recognition Paradigm Shift’s® new way of thinking and to result in an effective tool for the fundraiser’s ongoing success.

About the Organization

Firstly, the design needs to speak to the organization, its cause, and the community it serves. The installation needs to have adequate brand representation to quickly identify it as belonging to the organization and a visual link to the cause. Viewers need to readily see the connection between their community and the organization.

Additionally, the final design needs to fit the environment in which it will reside. A successful design should not be jarring or discordant with its architectural surroundings but rather a tasteful and complementary work of art with a distinctive presence — a “wow” factor that calls out to the viewer for further inspection. It should “fit” the space into which it will be installed, neither dwarfed by the space nor overwhelming to the area.

Understanding the Cause

To successfully implement the above components, the design should be created by someone with a deep understanding of the organization, including its visions, missions, and goals. The designer must also understand the basic principles of fundraising and what the organization hopes to achieve through the recognition display. A thorough consultative process is mandatory for a fruitful design outcome, eliminating the common mistake of accepting a design on its visual properties alone.

Functionality and Longevity

While the last points are crucial in working through the design process, consideration of functionality and, of course, longevity is of equal importance. Can the design be readily updated? Can donor names be easily added, edited, or removed if necessary? Can they be moved to a different level on display? Can the design accommodate expansion and growth?

Value and ROI

Creative design must also balance the best possible materials attainable within the organization’s available budget. During the design phase, you must consider your facility’s specific protocols, such as infection control, durability, and ease of cleaning the display overall, as well as all CSA and ADA compliances. Donor recognition displays that align with The Recognition Paradigm Shift® can increase donations to the point of paying for themselves many times over and improve existing donor retention.
